Astronautalis (US) & The Geordie Approach (NOR)

Astronautalis has been described as "if Beck were a decade or so younger and had grown up more heavily immersed in hip-hop," with his rapping style noted for "blending styles of indie rock, electro, and talkin’ blues" with hip-hop. He has described himself as "historical fiction hip-hop."

Once you find out that Astronautalis was born to a Texas train man with a nose crooked from bar fights and a pretty Kentucky girl who ran away from home at 17 to become a photographer, it becomes clear that he didn’t stumble into the life of a drifter, he was born into it. With a poet uncle who lived off horse betting and hitchhiking, grandfathers who were spies, sailors, and test pilots, and over 500,000 miles of touring under his own belt, you have to wonder where the tales in Astronautalis’ music end and the life of Andy Bothwell begins.

Bothwell has spent almost every waking moment of the last 7 years, on the road, playing shows, earning scars, collecting/giving tattoos, grinding out a cult like fan base, and living up to his proud, storied, and whiskey soaked blood line.

During live performances, he often performs a freestyle rap based on topics chosen by members of his audience.

Petter Frost Fadnes and Ståle Birkeland, teamed up with guitarist Chris Sharkey to form The Geordie Approach. This uncompromising and experimental trio pursues music within loose improvisational structures, adding a surprisingly broad range of flavours to their overall sound world. Their creative ideas grow within a large and open musical ‘space’, and the trio has a reputation for adapting and utilizing their performance space in an extremely effective and engaging manner. In their untiring quest for brilliant and unusual musical destinations - Birkeland, Frost Fadnes and Sharkey produce musical elements that often are contradictory in shape, moving between melody and noise, ambient grooves and abstract textures. The music is experimental and gets its inspiration from a range of sources – both acoustic and electric – both rock, jazz and noise
